v8.1 of Petty - my fuel price app for Australia and the UK - is now available on the App Store. A few months ago, when announcing v8.0, I said I was hoping the groundwork done recently would let me move faster on the long list of things I wanted to improve. 8.1 is the first sign of that.
There are two things worth noting about this release:
Price history per station
Petty has always shown you the current prices at a particular station, but that doesn't help when you're trying to figure out if prices are trending up or down at a particular station. Is now a good time to fill up? With 8.1, price history has been added across all fuel types for all stations - helping you see what's been happening with prices over the last 30 days (expanding to 90 soon).
You can also use it to see when a station wasn't reporting prices for a particular fuel type. This will show up as gaps on the chart, and likely means that the station had run out of that fuel type for a period of time.
A better map
The map has been rebuilt. Scrolling is faster and smoother, and tapping a station now surfaces more information up front. The old map was functional, but it had accumulated enough rough edges - slow to load, particularly when zoomed out, and more recently a common source of freezes - that patching it further wasn't the right call. Given that the map is how a lot of people primarily use Petty, it is important to get this right, and I'm happy with where it's landed.
If you're using the app, I hope you enjoy the update. As always, the Contact button in Settings is the best way to reach me if you run into anything or have thoughts on what should come next.
The update is available on the App Store.
